Srinagar, May 03 (KNO) : Hurriyat Conference (M) on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day stated that the freedom of press plays a vital role in strengthening a nation’s socio-political and economic scenario. The amalgam in a statement issued to KNO said “the observance of this day globally reflects prominence of press and its impact on common people’s life.” The statement said the way members of Kashmir media fraternity despite odds are carrying out their professional duties and bringing the ground reality before world, particularly in the last 30 years of ongoing uncertainty, is exemplary. The statement said APHC has always advocated for Freedom of Press and “we hope that the local media fraternity will uphold their policy to report the ground reality of Kashmir fearlessly.” Hurriyat (M) said that those forces who are trying to gag media and build pressure on them from reporting facts are trying to muzzle freedom of press. Meanwhile, the amalgam paid tributes to the three local armed youth Latief Ahmad Dar, Molvi Tariq Ahmad and Shariq Ahmad Nengroo killed on Friday in a gunfight with government forces at Imam Sahib Shopian. The statement said the lingering Kashmir issue is consuming precious human lives day in and day out on local level and on Indo-Pak borders as well. It said until the Kashmir issue is not resolved the conflict will continue to quench its thirst with human blood. It said instead of military might and aggressive policy, dialogue between India, Pakistan and people of Kashmir can resolve this bloody conflict.(KNO)
